The thick sugar cookie recipe is a more rich and dense cookie than the traditional sugar cookie.
6 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
4 sticks (2 cups) salted butter, softened
2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 large eggs
4 tablespoons milk
Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and salt; set aside.
Step 3: In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed.
Step 4 : Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract, beat until well mixed.
Step 5 : Add flour mixture; beat on low speed just until combined.
step 6 : Divide dough in half and form into two balls. Flatten the balls into a disk shape and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate 1 hour.
Step 7: On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. With cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets. If desired decorate with colored sugars or sprinkles.
Step 8: Bake for 12 minutes, do not brown.
Step 9: Immediately transfer to cooling surface.
Step 10: If decorating with icing, wait until cookies are completely cool.
