If you like chocolate chip cookies and muffins, then this chocolate chip scone recipe is for you!
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup buttermilk, plus tablespoons
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 large egg beaten
1 tablespoon milk
Pastry blender (optional)
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2: Line cookie sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
Step 3: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step 4: Cut butter with pastry blender or fork into flour mixture. The mixture should look like coarse crumbs.
Step 5: Stir in chocolate chips.
Step 6: Add buttermilk and vanilla extract to flour mixture.
Step 7: Stir until dough just comes together.
Step 8: Flour work area, then turn dough out onto surface.
Step 9: Knead dough gently four or five times, then pat dough into a circle 7 inches in diameter by 1 1/2 inches in height.
Step 10: Cut circle in half, then each half into three pieces.
Step 11: Place the scones on prepared cookie sheet.
Step 11: Beat egg and milk together and brush top of each scone.
Step 12: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until tops are golden brown.
