Welcome to the Halloween cookie recipes section, here you will find everything that’s creepy and crawly, but edible! Tasty cookies that will put a smile on the faces of all your little ghouls and goblins, and even your larger ones.

History: Halloween is an observance celebrated on the night of October 31, most notably by children dressing in costumes and going door-to-door collecting candy. The term Halloween is derived from the eve of the feast of All Saints (an important day in the Christian calendar), which used to be called "All Hallows" or "All Hallowed Souls".

Pumpkin Facts: Irish children used to carve out potatoes or turnips and light them for their Halloween gatherings. When the Irish came to America they found that potatoes and turnips weren't as plentiful as in their home country, but soon discovered that a pumpkin was a more than an adequate replacement. Today, the carved pumpkin is perhaps the most famous icon of the holiday.

The largest pumpkin ever grown stands at 1,469 pounds, and was grown by Larry Checkon of North Cambria, Pennsylvania. It was weighed in on October 1, 2005.

Fun Fact: In some parts of Ireland, Halloween is also called Pooky Night, presumably named after a mischievous spirit called the púca.
